Eric Burlison, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 7th district, has recently shared his perspectives on several fiscal and policy issues via social media. Having replaced Billy Long in 2023, Burlison brings experience from his previous roles in the Missouri House of Representatives and the Missouri Senate.

On June 4, 2025, Burlison expressed his stance on Medicaid and tax policies. He stated that “Congress needs to go further to protect Medicaid for the truly vulnerable and scrap the SALT cap increase for coastal elites at the expense of working families.” This tweet highlights his concern about protecting essential services for vulnerable populations while critiquing tax benefits perceived to favor wealthier regions.

Later that day, Burlison addressed taxation issues through a satirical exchange on social media. He posted “We’ll let Democrats tax their cities into oblivion and make the other states pay for it. We’ll call it SALT.” “Why not just lower the taxes, sir?” “Nobody knows.” This comment reflects his critical view of current state-level tax strategies and their broader implications.

In another post on June 4, 2025, Burlison differentiated between voluntary charity and government-imposed financial redistribution. He remarked that “There’s a difference between true charity and the government forcibly removing money from your pocket and giving it to someone else.” Adding context with “It’s not a hard concept for most (others not so much).”, he emphasized individual choice in charitable actions over mandated redistribution.
