Cost of college went up for all students at Missouri Southern State University

In-state tuition and fees rose 7.2 percent for 2018-19 at Missouri Southern State University, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Missouri residents paid $6,503 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $436 more than the $6,067 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 100 percent more than residents this year, or $13,005. Their price tag grew 12.4 percent from $11,568 in 2017-18.

About 81 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Missouri residents. About 18 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 95 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 862 students received grants or scholarships totaling $5 million and 516 students took out student loans totaling more than $2.5 million.

Including all undergraduates (6,006), 4,120 students used grants or scholarships totaling $22.9 million, and 2,898 students took out $17.6 million in federal student loans.
