The medical oncology department at Freeman Health is undergoing an expansion that will double its chemotherapy capacity from four to eight chairs. The project will also add more examination rooms and additional office space for the department's staff, which consists of six experienced nurses with a total of 98 years in the field.

The new facility will feature a modern compound pharmacy designed to produce personalized medications for patients. In addition, a new PET/CT scanner will be installed, providing advanced imaging to detect, locate, and evaluate cancerous growths. These upgrades aim to improve the speed and accuracy of cancer diagnoses. Currently, both the pharmacy and PET/CT scanner are housed in trailers; these will be moved indoors once construction is complete.

"Both elements are currently housed in trailers. Once the new building opens, those mobile elements will be removed."
