McDonald County Health Department - Food Safety Tips to Keep in Mind This Week!

Good morning! Reminder we will be CLOSED tomorrow (11/24) and Friday (11/25) for Thanksgiving.

We hope you have a fun and safe holiday - here are some food safety tips to keep in mind this week!

Clean your hands, utensils, and surfaces. Do not clean your turkey! Separate raw turkey or other meats from fresh produce and use separate cutting boards, plates, and utensils to prepare them. Cook your turkey to 165 degrees all the way through to ensure that it is safe to eat. If you are having ham or other pork, ensure that it is 145 degrees. After your meal, be sure to refrigerate your leftovers within 2 hours - cut meat into small pieces so it cools at a safe temperature. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days or in the freezer for 2-6 months. When reheating food, make sure it gets to be 165 degrees all the way through.

Happy Thanksgiving!
