Rep. Eric Burlison, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Missouri's 7th district, shared his views on federal debt and Medicaid reform through a series of tweets. Burlison, who succeeded Billy Long in 2023, has been vocal about fiscal policies and healthcare reforms.
On March 10, 2025, Rep. Burlison expressed concern over the national debt and the role of the federal government as a healthcare provider. He stated: "With $20 trillion in new debt on the horizon, the federal government is quickly becoming nothing more than an insolvent healthcare provider." He urged lawmakers to consider Medicaid reform to address these financial challenges.
Later that day, Burlison reflected on his time in office with optimism. He tweeted: "50 days in and I’m still not tired of winning." The message emphasized his commitment to achieving further successes for America.
In another tweet posted on March 10, 2025, Burlison highlighted concerns about Medicaid costs and enrollment figures. He wrote: "Nationwide, 24.6 million able-bodied adults are on Medicaid, 60% with no income." Citing projections from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), he noted that Medicaid expenses could surpass $1 trillion annually within a decade.
